Player of Year Gearhart returns to lead DV

Delaware Valley returns Lackawanna League Division 2 Player of the Year Blake Gearhart as it prepares to try to defend its divisional title and become more of a factor in the District 2-4 Class 6A Subregional.

Gearhart averaged 14 points, more than half of which came on 3-pointers. He is entering his third year as a starter after earning the Player of the Year honors from NEPABasketball.com.

Jackson Shafer is also back after receiving honorable mention on the website’s division all-star team.

The Warriors will be rebuilding the rest of the starting lineup.

“We look to compete for the division and district and get into states,” Delaware Valley coach Kris Holtzer said. “We have a young team with some talent.

“We need to adapt to the varsity level quickly and I think we will due to strong leadership from our upperclassmen.”

Senior Tom Raniero and junior Grant Berrios are experienced guards.

Juniors Liam Sheldon and Jackson Melnick and sophomores Aiden Oliver, Mike Leonardo and Peyton Robertson are all expected to contribute.

The Warriors went 7-6 in the Lackawanna League and 12-11 overall last season.
