NEPABasketball.com, WQMY announce TV schedule

NEPABasketball.com and MY TV, WQMY Channel 53, will televise 10 high school basketball games during the 2018-19 season.

The schedule was revealed today.

NEPABasketball.com presents High School Hoops on MYTV will begin Dec. 18 and run through Feb. 14 and be made up entirely of District 2 teams, which are members of the Lackawanna League and Wyoming Valley Conference.

Abington Heights, the defending Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association Class 5A boys, will begin and end the schedule in games against teams that won other titles in the 2017-18 season.

The Comets, who also won the Lackawanna Division 1 and District 2 Class 5A titles, will get the schedule started in a Dec. 18 game against Wyoming Seminary, the defending WVC Division 3 and District 2 Class 3A champion.

Abington Heights will face Scranton Prep Feb. 14 in a Lackawanna Division 1 game. Abington Heights has won seven straight District 2 titles while Scranton Prep, the defending Class 4A champion, has claimed four straight district championships.

The girls portion of the TV schedule will begin with a Wyoming Valley Conference game between defending Division 2 champion Holy Redeemer and likely Division 1 contender Dallas.

After the holidays, the schedule resumes with five games, including two more girls contests, in January and three games in February.

City rivals West Scranton and Scranton will meet in a Lackawanna Division 1 boys game Jan. 4, followed by a Jan. 10 WVC Division 3 boys showdown between Holy Redeemer and Wyoming Seminary.

The Wyoming Seminary-Holy Redeemer game is a rematch of last year’s District 2 Class 3A championship game. The teams finished 1-2 in the division and district last season when Wyoming Seminary followed up Holy Redeemer’s accomplishment of sweeping the two titles the year before.

Lackawanna girls games are next on the schedule with Dunmore and Riverside in Division 3 Jan. 17 and North Pocono-Abington Heights in a Division 1-2 crossover Jan. 24.

Dunmore is the defending division and District 2 Class 3A champion. Riverside finished second to the Lady Bucks in the second half of the division schedule last season.

North Pocono and Abington Heights, the defending District 2 Class 5A champion that has won three straight district titles, each finished second in its division last season. They meet in the annual Pink Game for cancer-related charity.

The remainder of the schedule is boys games, including: Wallenpaupack vs. Valley View Jan. 29; Mid Valley vs. Dunmore Feb. 1; GAR vs. Nanticoke Feb. 5; and the Abington Heights-Scranton Feb. 14 game.

Wallenpaupack and Valley View meet in a Lackawanna Division 1-2 crossover. Valley View was a state qualifier in Class 4A last season.

Mid Valley and Dunmore occupied two of the top three spots in last season’s Lackawanna Division 3 standings.

GAR, which has produced a dozen district championships, will be nearing the end of its storied basketball history before being combined with Meyers and Coughlin athletically for next season. The Grenadiers face defending champion Nanticoke, another state Class 4A qualifier, in a WVC Division 2 game.

Abington Heights and Scranton Prep finished 1-2 in Lackawanna Division 1 last season.

Some of District 2’s top returning players, including the two reigning NEPABasketball.com District 2 Players of the Year, will be showcased in the series.
