Both Montrose teams have opted out of the District 2 basketball tournaments, finalizing the eight-team fields in Class 3A.
With one week of games left in the Lackawanna League, the Montrose girls were expected to qualify while the Montrose boys were likely to miss out, but still had a chance at qualifying.
Montrose (8-12) appeared headed for the eighth seed and a quarterfinal game against top-seeded, unbeaten and state-ranked Dunmore.
Instead, Carbondale (3-17) becomes the likely eighth seed and first-round opponent of the defending champion Lady Bucks.
Lake-Lehman (5-16) no longer has to worry about final week results and ratings in Class 3A boys. It now is in the eight-team field and is likely to open against top-seed and defending champion Wyoming Seminary.
The Montrose boys are 6-13, but in the power ratings formula used by the district, they rank behind Lake-Lehman, .358-.321.
The Montrose teams are the only ones to have opted out of any of the District 2 basketball tournaments for this season.
