Kiesinger resigns PA boys coaching position

By Tom Robinson,

Alan Kiesinger resigned his position as boys basketball coach at Pittston Area after 10 years on the job.

Kiesinger turned in his resignation May 20. He met with administrators and players within the program.

After his wife Angela gave birth to the couple’s first child, Ben Harrison Kiesinger, April 26, Alan Kiesinger decided to step away from coaching after 20 seasons in various capacities.

“Things changed very quickly,” said Kiesinger, who teaches adapted physical education for the Luzerne Intermediate Unit.

Pittston Area went 13-10 in the 2018-19 season with a young, undersized lineup.

“There wasn’t much controversy surrounding Patriot basketball and we were able to have success as well,” said Kiesinger, who earlier spent one season as a head coach at Pittston Seton Catholic for the school’s final season. “I feel as though myself and my staff did a really good job of always having our team prepared.

“We certainly were not an easy out.”

The Patriots qualified for the 2014 Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association Class 3A state tournament after finishing second in District 2. They entered the tournament as a seventh seed but knocked off the second and third seeds to reach the finals.

Kiesinger graduated from Pittston Area in 1994.
