Rosenthal, Duplessis excel in different ways

The Lackawanna League’s most prolific scorer is on a hot streak.

Wallenpaupack’s Elijah Rosenthal fired in 11 baskets from 3-point range while scoring 57 points in less than 24 hours Friday night and Saturday.

While the Buckhorns handled a busy weekend schedule, Valley View sat idle in the cold at the end of a week where schedules were disrupted repeatedly by weather.

Jaden Duplessis and his Cougars teammates will be playing for the first time in 10 days when they host the Buckhorns at 7:30 in an NEPABasketball.com/WQMY TV game.

With the teams finally meeting in a game that was postponed twice last week, Rosenthal and Duplessis will be the Maddock Insurance Agency Marquee Matchup of the Game.

Duplessis, the sixth man a year ago, has developed into a double figures scorer with his ability to drive to the basket, but his biggest assignment could be on the opposite end of the floor.

The senior’s athleticism and intensity usually leave him with the assignment of guarding the opponent’s top guard.

There are few assignments in District 2 as challenging as trying to contain Rosenthal.

The 6-foot junior sharpshooter leads all Lackawanna League players, averaging 21.8 points and nearly four 3-pointers per game, while hitting 48 percent of his shots from long range. Rosenthal also averages 4.8 rebounds per game.

While Rosenthal gets more than half his points from beyond the arc, Duplessis is shooting 46 percent and averaging 10.7 points by getting to the basket. He has just three 3-pointers all season. Duplessis will score in traffic.

Rosenthal hit seven 3-pointers and scored 29 points in Friday's 63-56 victory over Delaware Valley, then had 28 more in Saturday's 58-44 win over West Scranton.

Monitoring the progress of Rosenthal and Duplessis in the Maddock Insurance Agency Marquee Matchup of the Game will be one of the features of tonight’s broadcast.

Tonight’s game can be seen over the air and on satellite TV providers at Channel 53.

WQMY is also available on cable at Comcast Channel 811, Service Electric Wilkes-Barre 504 HD, Service Electric Hazleton 508 HD and Blue Ridge Cable 617 HD or 16.
