Tirjan, Guerrieri help Lady Buckhorns clinch at least tie

Rachael Tirjan scored 17 points Saturday to lead Wallenpaupack to a 49-24 victory over Delaware Valley, clinching at least a tie for first place in Lackawanna League Division 2 girls basketball.

Megan Guerrieri had 11 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists for the defending champion Lady Buckhorns in the win.

GAR 50, Meyers 43

Vanessa Luna scored 16 points as GAR defeated Meyers in the final meeting between the two teams.

The athletic programs at GAR, Meyers and Coughlin are merging to become Wilkes-Barre Area at the beginning of the 2019-20 school year.

The Lady Grenadiers rallied from a 14-5 deficit after one quarter to improve to 3-12 in the Wyoming Valley Conference and 7-14 overall with the Division 3 victory.

Meyers is 6-9 and 12-9.

DaNayia Ballard led Meyers with 10 points.

Lake-Lehman 63, Wyoming Area 36

Claire Dougherty scored 11 of her 26 points in the first quarter, sending Lake-Lehman on its way to the WVC Division 2 romp.

Lake-Lehman finished the regular season 14-3, tied for second in the division, and 17-5 overall.

Wyoming Area, which did not qualify for the playoffs, is done for the season at 4-13 and 6-16.

Dougherty, a freshman, also had 11 points in the third quarter to key a 23-10 advantage and open a 57-27 lead.

Corinna Scoblick added 13 points and Savanna Purdy had 10 for the Lady Knights.

Nicole Silinskie led Wyoming Area with 17 points.

Northwest 72, MMI Prep 20

Northwest routed MMI Prep in the WVC Division 3 game.
