BOYS ROUNDUP: Northwest downs Scranton

Walker Yaple scored 24 points and Sam Saxe reached the 1,000-point milestone for his career Tuesday night as Northwest knocked off visiting Scranton, 64-57, in non-league boys basketball.

Northwest, a Class 2A school, has now won three straight since dropping its opener under first-year coach Sean Miller. The Rangers open Wyoming Valley Conference play Friday night at home against defending Division 3 champion Wyoming Seminary.

The Rangers broke a three-game winning streak by Class 6A Scranton, which falls to 3-2.

Northwest overcame a slow start, outscoring Scranton, 20-10, in the second quarter to take a 24-18 halftime lead.

Bryce Koser, Jaxon Yaple and Tyler Stevens all scored 10 points in the win. Saxe added nine.

Marcus Bauman had 19 points and John Rose added 16 for the Knights.

Susquehanna 69, Wyoming Area 46

C.J. Stone scored 23 points to lead four Sabers in double figures in the road win.

Stone had 10 points, Mason Deakin 8 and Bryce Baldwin 6 during a 26-point second quarter that allowed Susquehanna to break a tie and take a 39-30 halftime lead.

Adam Rockwell hit three 3-pointers in the second half and finished with 14 points. Deakin and Baldwin added 12 each.

Jake Greenfield led Wyoming Area with 12 points and Dan Wiedl had 11.

GAR 68, Williamsport 66

Will Johnson scored 31 points, including the game-winning basket with less than 20 seconds left, to lift GAR to the win at Williamsport.

Jared O’Day added 12 points for the Grenadiers (2-1).

Marcus Simmons scored 20 points to lead Williamsport.

Western Wayne 55, Tunkhannock 46

Western Wayne handed Tunkhannock its first loss.

The Tigers, playing for the third time in four nights, dropped to 4-1.

Dallas 46, Holy Cross 40

Jack Farrell scored 11 points to lead Dallas.

The Mountaineers took a 10-3 lead after one quarter.

Kieran Burrier led the Crusaders with 15 points.

Delaware Valley 54, Coughlin 52

Blake Gearhart had 6 of his 15 points during a fourth-quarter comeback by Delaware Vallley.

Brandon Hall led Coughlin with 19 points.

Wallenpaupack 66, Forest City 24

Wallenpaupack rolled over Forest City.
