All four District 2 finalists in Class 5A and Class 4A breezed through the first round of the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association boys basketball tournament Friday night.
Scranton Prep, Nanticoke, Crestwood and Abington Heights all won by more than 20 points.
Scranton Prep 71, Susquehanna Township 50
Scranton Prep overpowered Susquehanna Township in a Class 4A game at Lackawanna College.
Susquehanna Township needed a running 35-footer at the second-quarter buzzer just to make it to halftime trailing 31-15.
The Cavaliers then pushed the lead to 54-25 after three quarters.
Leo O’Boyle had 10 of his 20 points in the third quarter.
Brian Boland, who had 5 of his points in the third, and Rhys Merritt added 12 points each.
The District 2 champion Cavaliers (23-3) play District 11 third-place finisher Wilson Area (18-9) Tuesday at Hazleton Area at 6.
Nanticoke 57, Montoursville 35
Nanticoke scored the first 11 points of the second quarter for a 32-10 lead in the Class 4A game at Wilkes University.
Trahjan Krupinski scored 22 points and Nate Kreitzer added 20 in the win.
The Trojans (22-7) advance to Tuesday’s second round against the state’s top-ranked Class 4A team, Bonner-Prendergast (19-5) at Bethlehem Freedom at 7:30.
Danville 54, Western Wayne 33
Zach Rovinsky scored 20 points for Western Wayne in the Class 4A loss to Danville at Shikellamy.
The Wildcats lost second-leading scorer Dahlton Frisbie for the rest of the game after a pair of technical fouls early in the third quarter.
Danville led 30-19 at halftime.
Crestwood 65, Frankford 35
Crestwood outscored Frankford from Philadelphia 32-9 in the middle quarters to overcome a 11-7 deficit in the Class 5A game at Wilkes University.
Sean Murphy led the way with 25 points while Camden Boris added 18.
The Comets (21-7) will play District 11 champion Pottsville (24-3) at Hazleton Area Tuesday at 7:30.
Penncrest 53, Wallenpaupack 42
Marquis Tomlin scored 15 points to lead Penncrest to the win over Wallenpaupack in a Class 5A game at Plymouth-Whitemarsh.
Penncrest opened a 31-14 halftime lead before Wallenpaupack rallied to close it to 39-30 after three quarters.
Elijah Rosenthal led the Buckhorns with 15 points.
