George Tinsley scored 18 points Wednesday night as Abington Heights remained unbeaten in the Lackawanna League to clinch at least a tie for first place in Division 1 with a 54-34 romp over host Scranton.
The Comets took control early, opening a 17-6 lead after one quarter.
Scranton needed a Tahg Jones running 3-pointer at the second-quarter buzzer just to remain within 33-17 at halftime.
Trey Koehler scored 9 of his 11 points in the first half to put the Comets in command.
The Knights closed within 37-27, but then were held scoreless over the last 2:50 of the third quarter while the Comets added two points to their lead.
Abington Heights ran away late with the game’s final eight points.
Derome White led Scranton with 15 points.
Scranton Prep 50, Valley View 48
Scranton Prep remained a game behind Abington Heights going into its season finale at home against the Comets Thursday night by escaping with a win.
Leo O’Boyle led the way with 24 points for the Cavaliers. He made four 3-pointers.
O’Boyle had 10 in the first quarter, which ended in a 14-14 tie, and 17 by halftime.
The Cavaliers led, 26-24, at the break despite Bobby Craig scoring 10 of his 12 points for Valley View.
Jaden Duplessis scored 14 points for Valley View in the third quarter, keeping the Cougars within, 41-40. Duplessis finished with 16 points.
Brian Boland hit a pair of 3-pointers while adding eight points for the Cavaliers.
Carbondale 67, Blue Ridge 58
Carbondale won the non-league road game.
