District 2 landed six seniors, including four repeat selections, led by first-teamer George Tinsley from Abington Heights, on the Pennsylvania Sports Writers All-State Boys Basketball team that was announced today.
Second-team selections Leo O’Boyle from Scranton Prep, Nate Kreitzer from Nanticoke and Dimitri Gnall from Wyoming Seminary all made the team for the second straight season. They were joined by third-teamers Da’mir Faison from Hazleton Area and Matt Marchetti from MMI Prep.
Tinsley, the 6-foot-6 Binghamton University commit, was a first-team choice for the second straight season. He averaged 19.4 points while leading Abington Heights to District 2 Class 5A and Lackawanna League Division 1 titles.
The Comets were the last District 2 team standing, advancing to the state semifinals a year after Tinsley led them to their first state championship.
O’Boyle, 6-8 Lafayette College commit, recovered from an early-season foot injury to average 17.5 points. He was a second-teamer in Class 4A for the second straight season after leading the Cavaliers to a district championship.
Kreitzer, a third-team choice a year ago, moved up to second team in Class 4A. The Misericordia University commit became Nanticoke’s career leader in 3-pointers while leading the Trojans to the Wyoming Valley Conference Division 2 title.
The 6-5 Gnall, who averaged 17.5 points for Wyoming Seminary, also moved up from third team to second team. The Blue Knights won WVC Division 3 and overall championships along with the District 2 Class 3A title.
Faison, who is committed to Division I New Jersey Institute of Technology, is a third-team choice in Class 6A. The 6-6 senior led Hazleton Area to WVC Division 1 and District 2-4 Class 6A Subregional titles.
The 6-3 Marchetti averaged 18.3 points for MMI Prep to make the second team in Class A. The Preppers were the district’s only Class A team, but he helped keep them competitive against larger schools.
