GIRLS ROUNDUP: Vezendy, Wesneski lead Sem to win

Ally Vezendy and Alex Wesneski helped Wyoming Seminary fight off a challenge from host Meyers and remain unbeaten in Wyoming Valley Conference Division 3 girls basketball.

Vezendy finished with 16 points. She had nine in the second quarter to help the Blue Knights take a 27-24 halftime lead.

Wesneski hit two 3-pointers and scored 10 of her 15 points during a 17-11 third quarter that stretched the advantage to the eventual final margin.

Bella Gray and Allycia Harris scored 12 each for Meyers.

Wyoming Seminary has won five straight. The Blue Knights are 5-0 in the division and 7-3 overall.

Holy Redeemer 66, Pittston Area 24

Holy Redeemer took a 23-0 lead after one quarter of the WVC crossover.

Julia Andrejko scored 22 points to lead the Division 2 leaders, who are 6-0 in the WVC.

Sam Yencha added 14 points in the win.

Hazleton Area 67, Wyoming Area 33

Marissa Trivelpiece and Faith Grula each scored nine points in the first quarter to get Division 1 leader Hazleton Area out to a 23-8 lead in the WVC crossover game.

Trivelpiece finished with 13 points and Grula had 11.

The Lady Cougars improved to 5-1 and maintained their 1 ½-game lead in Division 1.

Aleah Kranson led Wyoming Area with 11 points. Nicole Silinskie added 10.

Nanticoke 47, Dallas 43

Nanticoke went on the road and edged Dallas in a WVC crossover game.

The Trojanettes (8-3) overall are looking to bounce back after losing three of their previous five games.

Wyoming Valley West 57, Tunkhannock 31

Toni Amato scored 22 points to lead Wyoming Valley West to the WVC crossover win.

Berwick 42, Crestwood 26

Berwick controlled the boards on the way to the WVC crossover victory.

Northwest 58, Hanover Area 32

Brenna Babcock scored 21 points to lead Northwest to the win in the battle for second place in WVC Division 3.


GAR downed MMI Prep, 58-18, in WVC Division 3 games. … Lake-Lehman routed Coughlin, 57-28, in a WVC crossover.
