Jason Kenny fired in 36 points, dished out 7 assists and made 3 steals Friday night to lead Misericordia University to an 88-73 victory over Haverford in the opening round of the Louis Fleming Basinger Memorial Tournament at Lycoming College.
Kenny, a senior guard from Mid Valley, went 12-for-23 from the floor, 6-for-9 from 3-point range and 6-for-6 from the foul line.
Lakeland graduate Tony Harding was 4-for-7 on 3-point attempts while adding 16 points.
Misercordia (6-6) shot 44.0 percent (11-for-25) on 3-pointers and better than 50 percent overall.
Stone McCreay added 12 points and Noah Rivera grabbed 10 rebounds.
The Cougars used a 19-4 run to open an 81-60 lead with 4:21 left.
Harding hit 3-pointers to begin and end a 13-point streak that got the run started.
Kenny had two 3-pointers late in the half for a 40-32 lead in the break.
Valley View graduate Alec Rodway opened the second half with three free throws and a layup to push the lead to 45-32. He also had four assists.
Misericordia will face Penn State-Abington Saturday a 1 p.m. for the tournament title. The teams also meet in the Vassar Tip-Off Tournament opener that was won by Penn-State Abington, 85-77.
