WILKES-BARRE – While GAR struggled through the 2016-17 girls basketball season, Khira Cook often shined.

The only player to average scoring in double figures last season and the only one to hit more than a 3-pointer per game for the Lady Grenadiers returns.

“We’re happy with her,” coach Hattie Caruso said at the WVC Media Day. “She’s our leader.”

GAR was winless in Wyoming Valley Conference play and just 1-21 overall, with the only win coming against Coughlin.

Olivia Prato, a junior who, like Cook, can player either guard position, is back after finishing second on the team in scoring and 3-pointers.

“We have a lot of young kids moving up and freshmen playing,” Caruso said.

The Lady Grenadiers have a roster of 17 players, including 6 seniors, among them Cook.
