Coaches announced for Inaugural All-Star Classic

The coaches have been selected for the Inaugural Battle of the Valley All-Star Classic. Here they are:

 

LACKAWANNA LEAGUE GIRLS

Roy Gibbs, Wallenpaupack

Coach Gibbs has coached all levels of both girls and boys basketball from junior high through high school starting his career in 1971 coaching boys in Nixa, Missouri.  He returned to Pennsylvania taking the position of head boys basketball at Damascus High School followed by girls head coach at Honesdale. Upon retirement from the Wayne Highlands School District Roy became the girls head coach at Scranton Prep.  He is currently the head girls basketball coach at Wallenpaupack Area.

 

 

 

WYOMING VALLEY GIRLS

Chris Parker, Hanover Area

Born in Scranton Pa, Coach Parker graduated from Scranton Tech in “91”.  Went to Mansfield University on a basketball scholarship.  Transferred to Wilkes University “93” , played for Jerry Rickrode. Was 1st basketball player inducted into Hall Of Fame in Jerry Rickrode Era! Top 10 all time in scoring, rebounding, and steals. Went on to play with Harlem Globtrotters World Tour (NY Nationals) for 5 yrs! Currently employed as a Juvenile Probation Officer 19 yrs.  November 16th 2017 was awarded JCJC Juvenile Probation Officer Of The Year in state of Pennsylvania .  Currently head coach girls basketball at Hanover Area. Prior to Hanover, was head coach at Holy Redeemer. Won 5 straight division titles, 1 district title and 1 runner up. 2 trips to Final Four State tourney, 1 elite 8 state tourney, and 2 Eastern Conference Finals.

 

 

LACKAWANNA LEAGUE BOYS

Kris Holtzer, Delaware Valley

Coach Holtzer is finishing his 12th season at Delaware Valley. He has led the Warriors to 5 of the last 7 Lackawanna League Division 2 titles, including the last 3 seasons (2016, 2017, 2018). In 2012, the Warriors PIAA District 2 Class AAAA championship and advanced to the Sweet 16 in the state tournament.  Outside DV, he workred as assistant coach and director player development for inaugural Allen Iverson All-American game in Virginia and has worked with 9 McDonalds All Americans including Lonnie Walker (Miami), Gary Trent Jr (Duke), Quade Green (Kentucky), PJ Washington (Kentucky), Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (Kentucky), MJ Walker (Florida State), Brandon McCoy (UNLV), Matt Coleman (Texas) and Jalek Felton (UNC) to name a few. Coach Holtzer has worked and trained with pros: Kristaps Porzongis, Carmelo Anthony, Karl Anthony-Towns, Kyrie Irving, Evan Turner, & Michael Carter-Williams. Recently Coach Holtzer has started working with USA basketball and junior national team head coach Don Showalter. He Hs traveled all over the country working and speaking at USA basketball camps & clinics.  During the summer of 2013 he took a college all-star team to Canada to compete internationally vs other universities and professing life teams. This summer he will be taking another group of college all stars to Ireland. These trips provides college athletes exposure in front of pro scouts and also an opportunity to immerse themselves in unique cultures.

 

WYOMING VALLEY BOYS

Jason Kingery, Berwick

Coach Kingery begins his 20th year as a Head Varsity Boys Basketball Coach. He previously coached in North Carolina, Virginia, and West Virginia before taking over at Berwick. He led Berwick to their first District Championship and state playoff spot in 36 years and his overall record stands at 308 wins and 217 losses. Coach Kingery has coached teams to many sectional and regional championships in Virginia, North Carolina, and West Virginia along with finishing runner-up in the state of West Virginia in 2011. He has also coached players who went on to have successful college and professional careers. Coach Kingery coached all-star games previously in the East-West Classic in North Carolina and North-South Classic in West Virginia. He also previously coached high school football as an assistant for 12 years prior to coming to Berwick as a Defensive Coordinator/Defensive Backs/Special Teams coach. Coach Kingery attended and was a 4-year letterman at Scott High School in Madison WV in both Football and Basketball, receiving numerous awards as a student athlete. Had opportunities to continue football career and choose to play Collegiate Rugby for 4 years at West Virginia University. Received Elementary Education/ Special education Degree from West Virginia University. Received Athletic Administration degree from Virginia Commonwealth University.
